NEW HUMAN-BEING IN THE POST PANDEMIC WORLD

Is this a situation of paradigm shift for the humankind?

Today, we are at a juncture, sitting in our homes, and trying to protect ourselves from the contagion (COVID-19). Never before have we been through such a time, with more than 50% population under the lockdown conditions around the world. Humankind, time and again has been hit by such epidemics and Pandemics, but never before have we experienced such a widespread effect on the humankind .

With this experience, under the isolation, many paradigms shifts, many life lessons, new experiences and memories are experienced by all of us, all this with the grace of this Pandemic (SARS CoV-2).

Never before we have seen such a reliance on digital technology like today. According to Global Digital Overview, more than 4.54 billion have internet access. This technology has been embraced by us as our sole friend in this unprecedented time. With increased usage of the internet, and increasing reliance on it an information revolution is going underway. The boundaries between wrong information and right information have been diminishing and prevalence of convincing information is in trend. With the full force of digital media, convincing information has been in dissemination with the use of credible sources, which has changed the outlook of people about how they perceive information. The current information revolution is rekindling the scientific temper of people to learn more using digital devices which will make the process of digital adoption more reliable in the near future.

Sitting in our homes and  watching the television about growing fatality rates due to this Pandemic,  the human concern has increased and our human conscience has awakened, which has guided us to live a well-balanced life, and invest on improving our mental as well as physical health. The idea of  Universal health coverage and prepreparedness for these kind of situations will be one of the main agenda of tomorrow's world where spending on the healthcare sector will get a boost. Basic hygiene etiquettes will be the new added asset to our social habits which will reap results in the form of various health benefits.

In the time of uncertainty, the human outlook towards life has changed, the values of unity, freedom of life, family values, relationships as well as Nostalgia has been revived, and cherished more than ever before. The connectedness between human being is increasing and our awareness is more focused today on standing with one another.

Today, the values of respect towards noble professions of Doctors, Policemen and sanitation workers has increased, and the appreciation towards these professions is being pouring out from different corners of the world. The idea of  "Humanity is the biggest religion", can be experienced by all of us.

The current situation has created a fear and suspicion in mind of people and with this  bleakness of our future, we are pushed to change some of our habit. The habit of Savings will become an ingrained part of culture of our tomorrow's society. The culture and working style of people will change which will hit the migration culture in the upcoming times as well as the travelling behaviours.

This unprecedented situation has given us opportunity to introspect upon some of our belief systems, to experience a paradigm shift and to rework upon some of our ideas and mind maps. This situation has given us chance to spend time with ourselves, to really know about our society and world around us. And lastly this situation has done what could not be done by our repetitive efforts, it has let us know the value of preserving the environment and not to interfere with the natural habitat of wildlife, because with that interference we are facing today, what we are facing. Now, we will understand the basic difference between a necessary or an unnecessary travel, which directly helps us to decrease carbon footprint.

With all this, we all can say, when we transition to post COVID-19 world, we will be different humans, with different thinking patterns and outlook towards this world , and the world will have to transition with us as well. A new paradigm shift is waiting for all of us, with ideas of self-reliance and harnessing human potential by investing in human resources, and last but not the least, understanding the value of resources given to us, all this will be the part of our new paradigm. Tomorrow's humankind will emerge better in terms of health, intellect and resourcefulness, because everytime human kind faced such a condition it emerged better and more powerful. We now need to acknowledge the fact that "Man is a part of nature, and his war against nature is inevitably a war against itself".

Loopholes of Aatma-nirbharta in the Defence sector

It all started with the clarion call of PM Narendra Modi on May 12, with slogans like "Aatma-N irbhar Bharat" and "vocal for local" to make India a self-reliant country and increase India's share in the global supply chain. Then came decisions to ban Chinese apps and Chinese investments. Next in chronology came the defence production and export promotion policy (DPEPP, 2020) which aims to increase India's self-reliance in the defence industry. Analysing how things are transpiring in this time of Pandemic and increasing Chinese belligerence, India's call for self-reliance looks hefty not just in numbers but also in its intent. India's reliance on imports in defence as well as in other areas has been pointed out many a time as unsustainable for India's growth but negligent to these calls, India's growth has been feeding onto this very idea. The call of an Aatma-nirbhar Bharat with no clear-cut policy and long-term vision coupled with an arc...

Two Questions for a more effective COVID-19 policy

Gasping for oxygen, scrambling to get a bed in the hospital, fighting for pyres in the cremation ground, fear overpowering the minds leading to hesitancy to step out of the house and facing the odds with the surging cases of COVID-19, this defines the lives of an ordinary citizen of India, for whom, this COVID wave has opened the floodgates of misery and helplessness. “Why the god has chosen my mother?” asked one, “Why don't even the doctors helping us?” asked the other. In between these questions, the moot point is, what could have been done differently for a continued retreat of the virus? In my previous article , I delve into the problem that India is facing in the present context and what has led to this problem. However, the need is felt to write this article for the sole purpose of what ought to be done to deal with the current situation. The article is based on the two conflicting ideas- first , an argument between lockdown v/s no lockdown, or to put it differently in t...

Force Majeure: Lockdown blues for Children

Playing and spending time with his friends, going to school everyday with enthusiasm, having randomised visits to relative's place, and going with family for outings, all these are things of the past for that small boy who loves to manifest dreams in his small world, living his life to the fullest away from all the tensions of this world and brewing new ideas everyday in his mind. Today, when an invisible virus(COVID-19) has wreaked havoc all around the world, we are wondering how will the post-COVID world look like, wondering how the global economy as a whole and national economy in particular will survive, but none of us pay heed to the effect, this Pandemic is having on those hundreds of thousands of Children (our future generation) across the globe. IMPACT ON CHILDREN With a sudden blow, people are locked-in their houses, plying on roads and all social activities have been banned, the smaller-ones who know nothing much about this unprecedented situation, are bearing the brunt ...
